After arriving from Churchill Downs on Monday afternoon, Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome took his first spin around Pimlico Race Course on Tuesday.
“He jogged and he was great,” said assistant trainer Alan Sherman. “He stood out there for a while, just looked around and took it all in. He’s a really curious horse. He likes to look around a lot and check out the surroundings. He was good. He was really good.”
The Lucky Pulpit colt is seeking to become the 13th horse to head to the Belmont Stakes with a chance to take home all three jewels of the Triple Crown since Affirmed completed the sweep in 1978.
General a Rod, who finished 11th in the Kentucky Derby, also had his first experience on the Pimlico main track after arriving from Churchill Downs on the same flight as California Chrome. Eclipse Sportswire was there to catch both horses’ morning exercise and will be providing great images all week as we get closer to the Preakness Stakes on Saturday.
