California meets Baltimore this weekend when Southern California-based Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome attempts to take home the second jewel of U.S. Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown.
California Chrome is bidding to become the 13th 3-year-old since Affirmed swept the 1978 Triple Crown to prevail in the first two legs of the series. The Derby winner figures to be an overwhelming favorite for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
