The weather forecast for the Baltimore area proved accurate as heavy rain and occasionally strong winds moved in early the morning of May 16.
Maryland Jockey Club track maintenance workers sealed the main track at Pimlico Race Course after the races of May 15. The dirt surface was sloppy for morning workouts May 16.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for rain to continue through at least part of the afternoon, with total rainfall of more than one inch. There was some minor flooding reported in the Baltimore area.
The temperature hovered in the upper 50s during workouts and is expected to rise to the low 60s by the afternoon.
Six turf races, two of them stakes, were scheduled for the grass on the Friday program. All of them were taken off the grass and will be run on the dirt.
