Description:

Welcome to Los Ponies Longshots! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras – Los Ponies to those who follow him on Twitter – will provide two or three longshots at 8-to-1 odds or better on the morning line that he identifies as strong value bets. Contreras also will map out a betting strategy for how to play his selections and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back each week if you love a longshot!
Saturday, Race 8, Santa Anita Park, 7:10 p.m. ET
#1 Chips All In (8-1): This veteran 7-year-old is making his third start of the year, and I like that he returns to the downhill turf course. They took the blinkers off last time and he didn’t respond with his usual effort, so he’s getting them back on for his return to a sprint. There isn’t a ton of speed in here, and I think he is a good threat to take them all the way from this inside post position.

Sunday, Race 6, Santa Anita Park, 6 p.m. ET
#6 Yes Yes Yes (10-1): This gelding tend to fire a good effort more often than not, and I think he fits this race very well. He was in too tough of a race last time out, but he’s got good enough speed to stay close to the leaders to set up his closing kick. He shows three maintenance workouts since his last race, and I like that the hot-riding Flavien Prat takes the call for the first time.
