California Invaders in for Fair Grounds Oaks

Seemingly doing all they can to get as far away from undefeated Songbird as possible, Southern California residents Land Over Sea and Street Fancy will head to New Orleans for the $400,000 Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) March 26.



Reddam Racing's Land Over Sea has been the most frequent tough-luck finisher behind Songbird, coming in behind her in five straight races, including non-threatening second-place runs in the Santa Ysabel (gr. III) last time out March 5, the Las Virgenes (gr. II) Feb. 6, and the Chandelier (gr. I) in September. The Doug O'Neill-trained daughter of Bellamy Road   is still seeking her first graded win.



Agave Racing Stable's Street Fancy has already reached that milestone, but did so in the absence of Songbird Dec. 12 in the Starlet (gr. I) at Los Alamitos Race Course for trainer Phil D'Amato. In her next race, the Las Virgenes, she was eased and finished 28 lengths behind the champion filly.



But the two invaders are entering Venus Valentine's turf at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, where she closed from last in the field of nine to win the Rachel Alexandra (gr. II) last time out at odds of 74-1 for owner Rosemont Farm and trainer Tom Amoss. Also returning from the Rachel Alexandra is second-place finisher Midnight On Oconee and two-time stakes winner Stageplay (fifth).

Last-out allowance winners Northwest Tale and Adore, along with grade II-placed Dream Dance, complete the field.
