Three days after winning the 2014 Preakness Stakes, California Chrome loaded onto a van at Pimlico Race Course to head to Belmont Park where he’ll try to capture the Triple Crown on June 7.
California Chrome loaded was on the van at 6:04 a.m. in Baltimore, and about four hours later he backed off the van it in his customary style in Elmont, N.Y.
Alan Sherman, Art Sherman’s assistant trainer and son who is accompanying the colt during his Triple Crown campaign, has enjoyed the experience so far.
"This means the world to all of us," said Sherman. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's been an unbelievable ride for us. It's hard to describe. It's just been so much fun. This horse has taken us on the ride of our lives. This is the first time we've had a horse in any of these types of races. We've run a horse in the Breeders' Cup but none of the Triple Crown races. I'm so proud of my dad for him to be able to do this towards the end of his career. He's very deserving."
If California Chrome wins the Belmont Stakes, he will be the 12th Triple Crown winner and first horse in 36 years to pull off the elusive feat. Eclipse Sportswire was there to capture the dual classic winner's arrival at Belmont.
