South Africa to Host Sale, Lucrative Races

Description:

In combination with Gold Circle, an organizer of racing throughout KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, Bloodstock South Africa will stage two 1 million rand races in 2016.  The races will be run Aug. 14 at Scottsville Racecourse.

The races are open to all graduates of Bloodstock South Africa's 2015 yearling and 2-year-old sales that were entered into the futurity series.

The races will add to the vibe of the National 2-year-old sale that takes place Aug. 17-19. August is well-suited to both racing and the sale, with its climate and conditions being the best in the country at that time of year.

The sale should also provide an incentive for trainers to stay in KwaZulu-Natal a bit longer once the races conclude. The evening before the sale begins, the Equus Awards ceremony will take place, providing another reason for racing connections to remain in the area.

The sale will feature two evening sessions and wrap up with a day session Aug. 19. Fillies will also be offered as they were in 2015.

In 2016 the sale's graduates will be eligible for two races each worth 1 million rand at Scottsville in August 2017. One race will be for colts and one for fillies, and both will be at 1,400 meters.

While the graduates of the sale will be eligible for the races next year, vendors will be required to contribute a fee of 3,000 rand for the races, and buyers will be asked to contribute a 4,000 rand fee.
