Description:

Welcome to Los Ponies Longshots! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras – Los Ponies to those who follow him on Twitter – will provide two or three longshots at 5-to-1 odds or better on the morning line that he identifies as strong value bets. Contreras also will map out a betting strategy for how to play his selections and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back each week if you love a longshot!
Saturday, Race 10, Santa Anita Park, 8:10 p.m. ET
#10 Pazmeifucan (5-1): He was part of a duel at a decent pace last time out before tiring late in the final yards. That was at a level twice higher than this group and now he returns to sprint distance while only making his second start for this barn. He’s got enough speed to sit a tracking trip behind a few of these and I think he will be making a good move coming into the stretch.

Sunday, Race 4, Santa Anita Park, 5 p.m. ET
#4 Belle Et Bete (8-1): She ran too good to lose last time out when closing from the back of the pack and maneuvering through the rail to just miss by a head. She was claimed by a barn that once was a very high percentage outfit with a first-off-the-claim angle. I like that this field is smaller than she faced last time and hopefully that translates to a clear path once she makes her move.
