America’s Best Racing and BetAmerica team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, handicapper and avid gambler Monique Vág will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet. The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.
Place your bets at BetAmerica, which prides itself on outstanding customer service combined with the safety and security of wagering with a reputable advance-deposit wagering platform.
This Weekend’s Bets
Exacta Box
Saturday, Race 9, Gulfstream Park, 3:53 p.m. ET
#7 I’m Amazing: This colt sold at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $1.6 million dollars. He is by Unbridled’s Song and is a half-brother to 2013 Preakness winner Oxbow. He’s certainly well-bred. Workouts show he’s ready. I’m excited to see what $1.6 million can get you!
#11 Dig Deep: This colt certainly looks primed to break his maiden soon after two really nice runner-up finishes. I like that he’s gone over a mile before. Drawing outside isn’t ideal, but he’s shown enough speed in his first two that I think he could work out a stalking trip.
#8 Conviction: He went off at even money in his debut and was never a factor. I like the addition of blinkers and the added race distance. He’s well-bred, Todd Pletcher trains, John Velazquez rides and he’s already had a career start under his belt. The 8-1 morning line odds are enticing.
Longshot Play
Saturday, Race 9, Turfway Park, Bourbonette Oaks, 5:07 p.m. ET
#6 Lookout Sister: I like that she has stakes experience. In her last, she raced over the slop and clearly didn’t take well to those kind of conditions. She’s well-rested (90+ days away from the races), and has been working out steadily to prepare for her debut. Ideally, I would have liked to see a 2016 start against easier, perhaps for a confidence boost, but she could definitely strike here at a nice price.
Best Bet
Saturday, Race 10, Turfway Park, Spiral Stakes, 5:43 p.m. ET
#10 Airoforce: This colt has been exceptionally impressive thus far. He’s one of a few which Mark Casse hopes are Derby-bound. He’s been successful among the graded stakes ranks and won’t be bothered today by an outside post. I think he breaks calmly and works out a ground saving trip. He’ll be closing late and with an extra eighth of a mile in this race today, I think he’ll win this one comfortably.
Best Bet
Sunday, Race 8, Santa Anita Park, the Tokyo City Cup, 7 p.m. ET
#1 Big John B: I’m pretty shocked connections have chosen to race him on dirt, but I never question moves like this from people who clearly know the horse best. His last win came in July on the dirt surface. He’s a multiple graded stakes winner and could win the race off any kind of trip.
