After Oscar Nominated, who was not Triple Crown nominated, earned a possible starting spot in the Kentucky Derby by winning the $500,000 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park this past Saturday, owner Ken Ramsey issued a unique proposal.
Ramsey said if someone wanted to pay the $200,000 it will cost to nominate Oscar Nominated to the Triple Crown, he would split the horse’s earnings in the three Triple Crown races with them.
It’s uncertain if anyone plans to take Ramsey up on his offer, but anyone who cashed the Pick 4 that culminated with Oscar Nominated’s victory in the Spiral certainly has a rather large wad of cash to toss into the kitty.
For a mere 50-cent wager, the Pick 4 returned $59,053 to highlight last week’s Sensational Scores.
Though Oscar Nominated, who was making his first start on a synthetic surface, paid $49.20 to win, he wasn’t even the biggest longshot in the sequence.
That honor went to Hoochie Poochie, who was rising in class after a win in a $15,000 claimer to a $25,000 claimer and registered a 43-1 upset, paying $87.
Wins by He’ll Pay at $27.60 and Wonderment at $10 in the Bourbonette Oaks were also included in the sequence that gave some folks a big bankroll to spend on the Triple Crown - in one way, shape or form or the other.

Elsewhere, one Santa Anita Park Pick 6 player on April 1 was not fooling when that handicapper bought a $32 ticket consisting of 16 combinations at Fairplex Park and wound up raking in $52,823 for being the only person with the winning combination.
The sequence was only half-baffling as it included wins by three favorites: Atta Boy Pete ($6.60), Gutsy Ruler ($4.20) and Be Mine ($6.20). There was also a $7.60 winner in Tinderette and a $13.60 winner in Warren’s Tricia R. in the opening leg.
What left only one handicapper standing was a victory by Guy Code, who had finished no worse than fourth in his last four starts, who prevailed at 14-1 and paid $31.20 to add the gusto to the sensational score.
Laurel joined in with a $20,534.80 trifecta for $2 in the sixth race on April 3 when Puturseatbelton ($82.20) triumphed at 40-1 and was followed under the wire by horses at odds of 8-1 and 34-1.
The solid gold mutuels in that race also included a $14,002 superfecta for a 10-cent wager.
The week’s “How did you come up with that one?” award was handed out in the fourth race at Tampa Bay Downs on April 1.
Mach Trial showed little in his career debut, finishing ninth by 17 ¼ lengths in a six-furlong on the main track. But when he was moved to the turf course for his second start, there was a much different verdict. The gelded son of Mach Ride stalked the pace and edged clear in the stretch to notch a victory at 65-1 odds and pay a week’s-best $132.20 for a $2 win ticket.
Mach Trial also topped a $41,113.10 superfecta for a $1 wager – and gave some other folks a few large stacks of available cash, just in case they wanted to get in touch with Mr. Ramsey about a horse and a trip to the Kentucky Derby.
