The Action: The win bet is the simplest wager in the game. Remember, when at the track, there's an order in which to announce your bet: State your bet amount ($2, for example), bet type (win) and the horse's number.
Advanced Action: The win wager is far from a "beginner's bet". Knowing when to bet a horse to win, place (to finish first or second) or show (first, second or third) is a skill in and of itself. In general terms, you want to make sure that your investment will return a potential profit that's greater than the risk taken with your bet. If you have extreme confidence in a horse at odds of 2-1 (which returns $3 for every $1 wagered), you can move ahead with your bet. If you're not overly confident in the horse, think twice before investing in a horse with a potential return of 2-1 or less.
#TheAction starting April 5, continues at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesdays.
