Something Extra Seeks Shakertown Repeat

Something Extra won the 2015 Shakertown.
John Menary and trainer Gail Cox's Something Extra will attempt to repeat his 2015 victory in the Shakertown Stakes (gr. IIT) for turf sprinters on the April 9 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes card at Keeneland.
With Shaun Bridgmohan, who rode the gelded son of Indian Charlie to an upset victory in the 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint last year, aboard Something Extra will face 11 foes Saturday as he attempts to join Soaring Free (2004-05) as the second repeat winner of the Shakertown.
The 20th running of the Shakertown will go as the eighth race on Saturday's 11-race program with an estimated 4:42 p.m. EDT post time.
The Shakertown will mark the seasonal debut for Something Extra, as it was last year when the 8-year-old scored a wire-to-wire victory. Something Extra, who has earned $953,459 with a record of 9-9-6 from 35 starts, is winless in six starts since his Shakertown success.
Likely favorite is Power Alert, an Australian-bred who finished fourth as the favorite in last year's race. Owned by AJ Suited Racing Stable and trainer Brian Lynch, Power Alert comes into the Shakertown off victories in the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint and Silks Run. Julien Leparoux has the mount and the pair will break from the inside post position.
Also expected to draw support will be Wes Welker and Sol Kumin's Undrafted. Fifth in the Xpressbet.com Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) at Keeneland last fall in his most recent start, Undrafted won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Eng-I) at Royal Ascot last summer for Keeneland-based trainer Wesley Ward.
John Velazquez has the mount Saturday and the millionaire 6-year-old gelded son of Purim will break from post position 10.
