Mirage will seek her third consecutive victory in the Providencia Stakes.

Mirage will seek her third consecutive victory when she stretches out to 1 1/8 miles in the $150,000 Providencia Stakes (gr. IIIT) April 9 for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita Park.

Mirage defeated six of her eight Providencia foes in the March 12 China Doll Stakes at a flat mile over the Santa Anita lawn. Her three lifetime wins ties for most in the field, and the big question is if there is enough pace signed up to set up her late run.

Kiss N Scat has raced on the lead and from mid-pack, but found herself far in arrears in the China Doll and ended up running wide. She flattened out to finish ninth, but won the California Oaks two races back and could find herself on the lead if she breaks well. Lady Valeur has talent and was getting to Mirage late in the China Doll, missing by a neck. She has won at the distance at Santa Anita and has never been worse than second in four starts.

Jeremy's Legacy has lacked the needed late kick in her three outings this season. She finished sixth in the China Doll but only 1 1/4 lengths off the winner. Perhaps the added distance will unlock her talent.

Sheeza Milky Way ran second behind Mirage in an allowance optional claimer two back before winning at that level last time out. She is another without early speed but has shown a nice late kick.

Nodiac checked in third a neck and a nose behind Mirage in the China Doll after coming three-wide into the stretch. She ran second down the hill at Santa Anita in the Sweet Life Stakes two back and has hit the board in all five of her career starts. Decked Out, fifth in the China Doll after rallying wide, has picked up minor awards in Schuylerville (gr. III) at Saratoga Race Course and the Sweet Life.

How Unusual finished eighth in the China Doll after laying back the entire race. She won her maiden down the hill from way back, but others with the same running style look to be more talented in this field. Do the Dance has a maiden victory in 10 trips to the post and has not been competitive in her stakes attempts.
