Champion Leigh Court Faces Five in Whimsical

The Whimsical Stakes (Can-III), open to older fillies and mares, will be contested at Woodbine April 10. It has drawn a field of six, including a Sovereign Award winner in Leigh Court.

The 2013 champion 3-year-old filly in Canada, Leigh Court makes her second start of 2016 in the Whimsical. She won the Mardi Gras Stakes in February at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. She also won the Thoroughbred Club of America (gr. II) at Keeneland in 2014 and appears to be the one to beat in Sunday's race.

Ida Bambina finished fourth in the Miami Shore Stakes at Gulfstream Park Feb. 14 and was stakes-placed in Woodbine's Lady Angela in 2014.

Skylander Girl was the winner of the May's Hendrie Stakes (Can-III) and the 2013 Ontario Debutante Stakes, both at Woodbine. She also placed second in the Whimsical Stakes last year, and her last start was a fifth-place finish in Woodbine's Bessarabian Stakes (Can-II) in November.

Sweetsoutherndame has been racing primarily in Kentucky, with her last five starts coming at Turfway Park. Her victories have all been in allowances, though she has several second-place finishes in non-graded stakes events.

Galina Point makes her 2016 debut in the Whimsical, having last run to a second-place finish in the OLG Algoma at Woodbine in September. She's a winner of the South Ocean Stakes and the Lady Angela Stakes, also at Woodbine.

Green Doctor is another runner who has found success in non-graded stakes at Woodbine, having won the 2014 Fanfreluche. The filly by The Green Monkey finished second in both the Ruling Angel Stakes and November's Jammed Lovely Stakes, her last start prior to entering the Whimsical.
