Terra Promessa (right) holds off Taxable to win the Fantasy Stakes.

Heavily favored Terra Promessa won the Fantasy Stakes (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park on April 9, holding off previously undefeated stablemate Taxable by a neck at the wire.

Ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr., the Curlin   filly broke from post 2 and settled into a second tier of horses behind early pacesetter Cosmic Evolution. Stonestreet Stables homebred Terra Promessa was rank in the early going, and Santana Jr. rated her in fourth in the initial stages of the Fantasy.

Ready to Confess grabbed the lead from Cosmic Evolution, and Terra Promessa, who continued under a hold into the turn, made a bid for the lead turning for home.  She drifted out in the stretch but still managed to hold off Taxable to finish the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:45.06.

The win was Terra Promessa's fourth victory out of five lifetime starts for owner and breeder Stonestreet Stables and trainer Steve Asmussen. The Fantasy score also gave her a perfect 3-for-3 record in 2016.

The Fantasy score marked Terra Promessa's second graded stakes victory.
