How to Make Money Betting Chrome in the Belmont

For the Preakness Stakes, we went with some big prices for second and third behind California Chrome but they were nowhere to be found.

Instead, the third betting choice, Ride On Curlin, and the second favorite, Social Inclusion, rounded out a chalky trifecta.

For the Belmont, I will once again tackle the trifecta.

Let’s begin with my process of elimination.

I threw out Medal Count because I just think he prefers a synthetic surface or turf. I think Matterhorn and Matuszak are clearly overmatched, so I will also eliminate them. Commissioner was defeated fair and square last out and don’t think he will make an impact here.

There is not a lot of speed in here, so I think Samraat will set the pace but will not be around once the horses hit the top of the stretch. Tonalist will be pressuring Samraat while California Chrome races behind those two.

That leaves me with Commanding Curve, Ride On Curlin, Wicked Strong, General a Rod, and Tonalist all trying to run for second or third behind California Chrome.

Below is my strategy:

$1 trifecta: 2 with 4,5,9,10,11 with 4,5,9,10,11 ($20 total)
I think it’s time we get a new Triple Crown champion — California Chrome.
