Description:

America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – who puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.
Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).
Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Friday
Best Bet (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Barretts Race Meet at Fairplex, Race 9, 7:20 p.m. ET
#1 Bares Tripper: The only time this horse ran on this track, she won the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Stakes by more than six lengths. She has enough speed to establish a good position on the rail, and I envision her coming from off the pace. Given that this track is smaller than the other California tracks, having a race on this surface gives her a slight edge.
Saturday
Best Best (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Belmont Park, Race 5, 3:09 p.m. ET
#7 Start Jumping: He was given time off in February and came back to win in early August at Saratoga, where he was claimed by trainer David Jacobson who wins at 27% when he claims horses for the first time. Not only does is look the the time off did this horse well, he also seems to prefer this seven-furlong distance for his closing style. He looks to be in a good spot to win again.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)
Barretts Race Meet at Fairplex, Race 6, 6:05 p.m. ET
#3 Yankee Minister: These short four-furlong events are, most of the time, won by the early speed. This horse has worked fast on the Pleasanton dirt surface and goes to a new trainer that wins at 26% with newly acquired horses. He has speed to make him dangerous and has a good hustling rider in Dionicio Navarro. Worth a shot at a price.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Barretts Race Meet at Fairplex, Race 10, 7:45 p.m. ET
#1 D’pendable: He’s fast, he likes the dirt, he has a good workout, he comes from the Bob Baffert barn. This horse has plenty of positives going for him and is the deserving favorite, but there might be some value in the exacta with a few other horses.
#2 Syndicated: He has a win at this distance on a synthetic surface but given his dirt starts, he should have no problem with today’s surface. Jockey Martin Pedroza knows him well and is no stranger to the winners circle at this track. I expect him to try and cross over the favorite in the early stages and try to steal the race.
#4 Coo Cachoo: His last start was not all that good but the last time he ran on a dirt surface, he showed great early speed and ran a very good second. He’s had plenty of success with this jockey, Agapito Delgadillo, and I expect him to run much better today.
Sunday
Best Bet (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Belmont Park, Race 2, 1:36 p.m. ET
#3 Mosler: He ran a good fourth in his debut at Saratoga for trainer Bill Mott. A thing to note is that this horse was bought for more than $1 million dollars at the Keeneland sale in 2012. He’s meant to be a good one and I expect him to show plenty of improvement in his second start. He has a good workout leading up to this race and should appreciate the longer distance.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)
Belmont Park, Race 9, 5:17 p.m. ET
#4 Giftie Gie: This filly ran her debut in 2012 in a sprint race on a synthetic surface and finished 8th. She returned in 2013 for her second start, going a mile on the turf, and won at odds of 12-1. She definitely matured and blossomed with the time off. We now know she has speed and likes the turf. For me, I consider her last race, her real debut. That race in 2012 will only help us get better odds today. Today she returns to the distance, surface, and track of her only win.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet )
Barretts Meet At Fairplex, Race 9, 7:20 p.m. ET
#7 Fear the Beard: He lost by a neck last time at Del Mar and if he repeats that effort, he will be tough to beat. He should have no problem handling the track today given that he has two starts on the dirt with two seconds. Having jockey Martin Pedroza aboard also helps.
#8 Arraignment: Last year, he ran a good second over this track against tougher competition at this same distance. This trainer and jockey combination is winning at over 30% and his trainer also does well when he claims horses for the first time.
#9 Dunmore East: This the horse that I think will be sent to the lead and try to steal the race gate to wire. He is adding blinkers and gets a good speed rider. His trainer had some good wins toward the end of the Del Mar meet and looks to be heating up.
