Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze suffered a broken right collarbone in a third-race spill April 16 at Golden Gate Fields.
Baze is expected to miss three to four weeks because of the injury, the rider's agent, Ray Harris, reported April 17.
Baze was unseated when his mount, Hewearsthefoxhat, broke down and fell in the final sixteenth of a mile. The rider walked off the track and was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland for evaluation. Tests revealed a collarbone fracture, according to track physician Dr. David Seftel. He is expected to be released from the hospital Sunday, Harris said.
Baze, 57, leads all jockeys with 12,812 wins in North America. He has captured 53 riding titles at Golden Gate and sits atop the current meet standings with 95 victories, 29 more than second-place rider Juan Hernandez.
JR Racing and Ron Brewer's Hewearsthefoxhat, a 3-year-old son of Old Topper—Miss Pitz, by Cadeaux Genereux, was euthanized.
