Hip 1214, a Quality Road filly, worked a quarter-mile in :20 2/5.

The under tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training came to a conclusion Saturday, April 16, with two more horses equaling the quarter-mile fastest time of :20 4/5 for a quarter mile.

Equaling the quarter-mile best work time of :20 2/5 established April 14 by Hip 790, a Shackleford   colt from Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree consignment, were Hip 1127, a Ghostzapper filly, and Hip 1214, a Quality Road   filly.

The Ghostzapper filly was bred by and is consigned by Off the Hook, agent. The Florida-bred miss was produced from the stakes-winning Freud mare Mighty Eros and descends from a solid black-type family.

The Quality Road filly, consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds, is out of Over Andover, a winning War Chant mare who is a half sister to grade III winner and grade I-placed Called to Serve. The filly’s fourth dam, grade III winner Hot Novel, produced grade I winner and sire Behrens. The filly was purchased by Machmer Hall for $112,000 from the Hidden Brook consignment to the 2014 Keeneland November sale.

Except for two incidents—one in which a horse collapsed but recovered and walked onto the equine ambulance and another in which a horse died as a result of a medical condition—the six days of workouts by more than 1,000 horses went smoothly, according to OBS sales director Tod Wojciechowski.

“We had some minor issues, but overall the weather was kind to us, the track was fair, and I thought everyone had a good show,” Wojciechowski said. “OBS and the consignors are very professional and know how to put on a good under tack show.”

Ten horses worked eighths in :09 4/5, the session’s fastest at the distance.
