Redoute's Choice Colt Tops Easter Sale Day 2

The action soared inside the sales ring, April 6 along with the temperature, on the second day of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, Australia.

The day's top price of Aus$1,800,000 (about US$1,360,930) was brought by a Redoute's Choice colt, a full brother to 2013-14 Australian Horse of the Year Lankan Rupee who was offered by Coolmore Stud as Lot 285.

He was one of 21 purchases for Gai Waterhouse, Julian Blaxland and partners—the leading buyers over the last two days, having outlaid Aus$8,882,500 ($6,715,790)—and bidding was competitive as soon as he stepped into the ring.

"The pedigree is exceptional, and he is a strong, masculine colt which has a wonderful physique which backs up the page," said Waterhouse. "We're very excited to have him in the stable, and I'm very fortunate my investors were a bit stronger than the rest. We hope he'll be winning the Golden Slipper (Aus-I) this time next year."



The Inglis sales company reported an 81% clearance rate so far, with 291 lots grossing Aus$81,832,500 (about $61,871,100) for an average of Aus$281,211 ($212,615). Inglis reported 41 lots by 17 different sires sold for Aus$500,000 or more to 24 different buying groups, underlining the depth of the market.



A syndicate that included James Bester, Gerald Ryan, and Damien Flower secured the second top-priced lot on day two, going to Aus$1,100,000 ($831,677) for a Snitzel half brother to stakes winners Divorces and Disputes (Lot 290). Snitzel was trained by Ryan and owned by Flower during his racing career.

 

Ryan also went to Aus$1,100,000 ($831,677) on another lot, outstaying heated competition from Hawkes Racing and Northern Farm to secure a sister to group I-placed 2-year-old Lake Geneva. The daughter of Fastnet Rock from Hips Don't Lie was offered from Coolmore Stud as Lot 340.

  

The third and final day of the auction will be Thursday, April 7, with a morning session that will be followed immediately by a second session.
