Dalakhani, a resident stallion at the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval near Normany, France, will be unavailable to cover mares the rest of the 2016 breeding season because of an unspecified “veterinary problem,” Aga Khan Studs announced April 12.

Dalakhani won the 2003 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) and Prix du Jockey Club (Fr-I, French Derby) and was crowned the season’s European champion 3-year-old before retiring to stud at his owner’s Gilltown Stud in Ireland, where he stood for 12 years. He was transferred to France for 2016.

Dalakhani, a 16-year-old son of Darshaan—Daltawa, by Miswaki, is the sire of eight group I or grade I winners, including two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) and English classic winner Conduit, French Derby victor Reliable Man, and Irish Oaks (Ire-I) winner Moonstone among 45 black-type winners.

A shuttler to Cornerstone Stud in Australia since 2013, Dalakhani’s first Southern Hemisphere-bred yearlings have recently gone through the sales and included a colt out of Global Dance that sold for Aus$620,000 at the Easter Inglis sale last week in Sydney.
