Hip 404, a filly by High Cotton, brought $400,000.
A filly by High Cotton was purchased by Mike Ryan for $400,000 to become the new sale-topper at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s April sale of 2-year-olds in training.
Consigned as Hip 404 by Ocala Stud during the sale’s April 20 second session, the filly was produced from the winning Gone West mare West Side Dancer and is a half sister to grade II winners Discreet Dancer and Travelin Man and to stakes winner Sweet N Discreet.
“She had the aura that elite horses have,” said Ryan, who bought the filly for an undisclosed client who is a newcomer to the horse business. “She was special.”
Ryan said he had seen the filly at Ocala Stud earlier in the year and “I couldn’t believe how much she had changed in 60 days.”
Just before the High Cotton filly went through the ring, a Macho Uno colt was purchased by Rockingham Ranch, with trainer Peter Miller signing the ticket for $335,000, which matched the first day’s top price.
Consigned by Grassroots Training and Racing as Hip 395, the colt bred in Kentucky by T/C Stable had been acquired by Grassroots for $85,000 from the Cross Keys Sales consignment to last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale.
The colt was produced from $91,928-earner Madena, by Saint Ballado, and is a half brother to stakes-placed Pap Turf.
