Wet weather that has hindered preparation of horses to race has led Hastings Racecourse to scrap its April 23 program and instead offer a 10-race card April 24.
Officials at the Vancouver, British Columbia, track said Saturday's card was canceled in order to provide the "best possible product" this early in the live racing season.
"Due to an exceptionally wet spring, several horses are a few weeks behind in their training," Hastings general manager Darren MacDonald said in a release. "Now, because of the great weather we've been experiencing in April, we expect many more horses to be ready in the coming weeks."
The first of Sunday's 10 races will start at 1:50 p.m. PDT. In appreciation of any inconvenience this weekend's scheduling adjustment may have caused, MacDonald said patrons attending on Sunday will receive a complimentary live racing program.
