With the departure of champion juvenile filly Songbird from the May 6 Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) many owners and trainers of 3-year-old fillies are sorting through their options. One of those is trainer John Servis, who has confirmed that he is now considering Cash is King's Cathryn Sophia for the nine-furlong Oaks.
Cathryn Sophia was on the trail for the seven-furlong Eight Belles Stakes (gr. II) on Oaks day at Churchill Downs following her third-place finish April 9 in Keeneland's Central Bank Ashland Stakes (gr. I) behind Weep No More and Rachel's Valentina. The Maryland-bred daughter of Street Boss —Sheave, by Mineshaft , was unbeaten in four starts prior to the Ashland.
However, with Songbird out of the equation due to a fever, Servis may call an audible. He said his filly will work April 22 at Keeneland—weather permitting—and a determination of her status will likely be made the following day.
