Three new stallions join Coolmore Australia's roster for 2016 led by 2015 Tooheys New Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.
A son of Medaglia d'Oro—Skates, by Danehill, Vancouver will share the top stud fee of Aus$66,000 with 2012 Golden Slipper winner Pierro, a son of Lonhro—Miss Right Note, by Daylami. Pierro will have his first runners next season.
The other new additions are group I William Hill Blue Diamond and Inglis Sires Produce Stakes winner Pride of Dubai, who commences his stud career at a fee of $55,000, while Scat Daddy's brilliant group I-winning son No Nay Never is an exciting new addition at a fee of $11,000.
"Pride of Dubai is already here on the farm and looks a million dollars while Vancouver is thrilling Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle," said Tom Magnier in a Coolmore statement about the new fees. "We're really looking forward to see him running—most likely at Royal Ascot—before he returns here for the breeding season."
A precocious juvenile, No Nay Never won the group I Prix Morny and was France's champion 2-year-old for 2013.
"Wesley Ward has trained some very fast horses but none faster than Scat Daddy's son No Nay Never who smashed the 1,000-meter course record for a 2-year-old at Royal Ascot. His first foals in Europe look like they'll be fast too," said Magnier. "We are obviously over the moon with the start So You Think has made at stud. We were always very confident about his prospects but didn't expect it would happen quite this early. There is great anticipation ahead of Pierro's first two-year-old runners next season; they really look the part."
Champion sprinter Starspangledbanner will return to Coolmore Australia for 2016, having stood the past three Southern Hemisphere seasons at Rosemont Stud in Victoria where he was foaled and raised.
"Last season Anthony Mithen told us that Starspangledbanner's fertility had improved significantly to the point where he had over 50 mares in foal so we decided to shuttle him to Ireland," said Magnier. "Up there he has exceeded all expectations with 50 mares already in foal and his fertility is excellent. All the experts are literally dumbfounded. We are extremely grateful to Anthony and all his staff and vets at Rosemont Stud for doing such a fine job with the horse."
Starspangledbanner's first crop in Australasia yielded 13 winners from 19 runners including group III Blue Diamond Prelude winner Of The Brave. Yearlings from his second Southern Hemisphere crop realized up to $540,000 at the sales in 2016.
