First Winner Reported for Zanzibari

Description: 

Malandrino is the first reported winner for French group III winner Zanzibari, a Kentucky-bred son of Smart Strike  , after capturing a June 8 race at Lyon-Parilly in France. 

 
Pamela Boehm rode the 2-year-old colt to a neck victory for trainer Bernard Goudot, who co-owns the bay with E. Ciampi. The winner, the first foal from the winning Miesque's Son mare Vireli, was timed in 1:15.26 for 1,200 meters (about six furlongs) on good turf. He was bred in France by Thierry de la Heronniere and Danielle de la Heronniere.
 
Zanzibari won the 2009 Prix de Cabourg (Fr-III) among two wins from four starts for Godolphin and trainer Andre Fabre. Bred by Elisabeth Fabre, the 7-year-old horse is out of multiple French group winner Zinziberine, by Zieten, and is a half brother to two French stakes winners. The newly minted freshman sire has 40 2-year-olds in his first crop. He stands in France at Haras du Mesnil, where he commands a 2014 fee of €1,000
