Recoiling wins race 3 at Golden Gate Fields May 1, 2016

Freshman sire Coil   got his first winner from his first starter at Golden Gate Fields May 1 when his daughter Recoiling won a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight in near gate-to-wire fashion by 1 3/4 lengths.

Only You Babe (by Thorn Song) was second, while Carville (Globalize) checked in third. Hansen's first runner, Hansencat, finished fifth as the favorite.

The final time was :52.29. Recoiling is trained by William Morey and was ridden by Juan Hernandez.

Coil, a maiden winner at 2, won three races as a 3-year-old including the Haskell Invitational Stakes (gr. I), in which he defeated Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Shackleford  , and the Affirmed Handicap (gr. II). He returned to win the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (gr. I) at 4 and the San Pasqual Stakes (gr. II) at 5.

By Point Given  , Coil is out of Eversmile (Theatrical), a half sister to champion turf female Possibly Perfect. He stands at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, Calif., for $5,000.

Bred by Martin Bach, Recoiling is raced by Bach along with Lynn Gitomer and Daniel Weiner. She is out of Chanceofalifetime, whose progeny include stakes winner Kelly's Princess (Western Fame).
