AJ Suited Racing Stable's Power Alert looks to become the first repeat winner of the $150,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Presented by TwinSpires.com (gr. IIIT) when he faces 12 rivals including grade I winner Hootenanny May 6 at Churchill Downs.
The Brian Lynch trainee needs to rebound from an eighth-place finish in the April 9 Shakertown (gr. IIT) at Keeneland, and looks to return to the same winning form that saw him establish a stakes record of :55.17 for five furlongs in last year's edition of the Turf Sprint.
Julien Leparoux, aboard for last year's victory, has the mount from the rail aboard the 6-year-old gelding.
He will likely face a challenge from Hootenanny, the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IT) winner who last ran second off the layoff in the April 9 Jacques Cartier Stakes at Woodbine after failing to hold the lead late. Racing for Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, Hootenanny came off a break of 9 1/2 months to secure that runner-up effort to Passion for Action.
