Catch a Glimpse, riding a five-race winning streak that includes the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT), heads a field of 13 3-year-old fillies contesting the $150,000 Edgewood Stakes (gr. IIIT) at 1 1/16 miles May 6 on the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) undercard at Churchill Downs.
Catch a Glimpse lost a maiden special weight heat in the slop at Saratoga Race Course last year before beginning her winning ways. She has returned this year to win the Herecomesthebride Stakes (gr. IIIT) and the Appalachian Stakes (gr. IIIT) either on or stalking the lead. She has won at the Edgewod distance and over various track conditions, and is the most accomplished filly in the Edgewood.
NOVAK: Catch a Glimpse Determined in Appalachian Score
Ava's Kitten and Outsider Art, who finished immediately behind Catch a Glimpse in the Appalachian, take another crack at her in the Edgewood. Ava’s Kitten won a stakes late last year at Belmont Park and came within three-quarters of a length of Catch a Glimpse in the Appalachian. Outsider Art ran well late to grab third in the Appalachian, and also finished third in the Jessamine Stakes (gr. IIIT) last fall at Keeneland.
Jeremy's Legacy has been racing in California since coming over from Ireland. Placed just off the lead last out in the Providencia Stakes (gr. IIIT) over yielding turf, she held second. Nodiac finished third in the Providencia and has placed in three consecutive stakes races.
Harmonize won the Jessamine last fall but then finished seventh behind Catch a Glimpse at the Breeder’s Cup. She scored in the Sanibelle Island at Gulfstream Park at a flat mile on turf last out and likes to win, with victories in three of five lifetime starts.
Enjoy Yourself flashed talent with a second-place finish in the Florida Oaks (gr. IIIT) at the Edgewood distance last time out. She hasn’t been off the board in four lifetime starts. Adore checked in third in the Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) behind Oaks runner Land Over Sea and will be trying turf for the first time. Her sire, Big Brown , successfully negotiated both surfaces.
Heavenly View has won a maiden allowance and then an allowance consecutively and will be tested for class in the Edgewood. Believe in Bertie set the pace and was beaten a head by Heavenly View in that allowance contest. Auntie Joy landed fifth in the Appalachian and has a maiden win at this distance at Churchill. Sky My Sky and Born to Be Winner need to show considerable improvement to enter the winner’s circle in the Edgewood.
