Decked Out Seeks Second Grade III in Senorita

While her trainer and part owner may be a bit preoccupied about 2,000 miles away May 7, Decked Out will look to win her second straight grade III event over the Santa Anita Park turf course in the $100,000 Senorita Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Trainer Keith Desormeaux and co-owner Big Chief Racing will likely be focused on Exaggerator in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) Saturday, but the 3-year-old Street Boss   filly could be just starting to roll after her breakthrough score last time out in the Providencia (gr. IIIT) April 9. It was her first victory against winners (she went winless in eight starts after breaking her maiden in her May 2015 debut) and the margin of 2 3/4 lengths was impressive over a yielding turf course.

LAMARRA: Decked Out Flies By, Takes Providencia

Fellow Senorita entrants Mirage and Swift Lady defeated Decked Out in minor stakes before the Providencia, and will be looking for their first graded score in the mile grass race.

Bob Baffert-trained Swift Lady may be the most serious challenger, riding a three-race win streak. But those victories have all been at sprint distances—she broke her maiden at 5 1/2 furlongs on the Los Alamitos Race Course dirt and won back-to-back races down the Santa Anita hillside turf course at the allowance level, and then in the Sweet Life Stakes Feb. 14.

A duo of Jerry Hollendorfer-trained stakes winners—Stays in Vegas and Kiss N Scat—also figure to be a factor.  Allowance winners Sheeza Milky Way and Be Mine,  last-out claiming victress Compel, and maiden winner Fourth Watch complete the field.
