Steve Landers Racing's Dazzling Gem and Jacks or Better Farm's Fellowship were added to the list of Preakness Stakes (gr. I) candidates May 9.
Dazzling Gem, by Misremembered , won his first two career starts at Oaklawn Park earlier this year, and then finished third behind victorious Gun Runner in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and fourth in the Arkansas Derby (gr I), which was won by Creator.
"The Preakness is possible and so is the Peter Pan, but right now I am leaning more toward Pimlico than Belmont," trainer Brad Cox said.
The Peter Pan (gr. II), a one-turn-mile stakes for 3-year-olds at Belmont Park, will be run May 14.
Fellowship finished fourth in the Pat Day Mile (gr. III) at Churchill Downs May 7. Trainer Mark Casse's son and assistant trainer Norman Casse said the son of Awesome of Course exited the race in good order and confirmed that the third-place finisher in the Xpressbet.com Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park is a candidate for the May 21 Preakness.
The Maryland Jockey Club said the first three finishers in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I)—Nyquist, Exaggerator, and Gun Runner—are expected for the Preakness, as are Suddenbreakingnews, Brody's Cause, Creator, Lani, Awesome Speed, Cherry Wine, Collected, Laoban, and Stradivari as of May 9.
