A late change in the status of a horse entered May 10 at Parx Racing created confusion and ultimately frustration for bettors.
Change of Seasons initially was listed as being scratched from the fourth race May 10 at Parx, but at some point the son of Spring At Last was either re-entered—or perhaps the initial information on the scratch was inaccurate. Either way, Stanley Trzcinski's Change of Season, at odds of 10-1, rallied from last in the field of five to score a clear victory in the six-furlong test.
The Julio Garrido Twitter account captured a screenshot of the TwinSpires.com advance deposit wagering site listing the horse as scratched with the race being listed as final. It is unknown if other sites experienced similar problems.
XpressBet.com listed Change of Seasons under its "changes" tab but a few hours after the race had no other information, suggesting the horse likely was initially listed as a scratch before its status changed at some point.
Information at Equibase.com also was inaccurate. The Equibase site, under scratches and changes, lists Change of Seasons as being scratched at 2:30 p.m. EDT. The site then notes that Change of Seasons "will run," in a change listed at 2:42 p.m. The race went off at 2:31 p.m. with Change of Seasons breaking from post 2.
An Equibase spokesperson said the mistake likely occurred because of information reported by the track. The Parx racing office and stewards could not be reached in the late afternoon May 10.
