The New York State Gaming Commission has levied a $2,500 fine and 20-day suspension against veterinarian Carl E. Juul-Nielsen for falsifying veterinarian records for the horse Street Shark, who was scratched from the first race at Aqueduct Race Track March 19.
According to the ruling, because Juul-Nielsen waived his right to appeal, five days of the suspension will be stayed for 180 days from the date of the ruling, providing there are no futher violations.
Juul-Nielsen, the founder and practice owner of New York Equine, based in Jericho, N.Y., has been suspended and suspended at least twice previously.
In 2010, he was suspended seven days and fined $500 for violation of Lasix administration rules and in 2008 was suspended 10 days and fined $500 for “unlicensed participation.” In both instances the suspensions were stayed pending no further violations for specific periods of time.
