Grade I winners Cavorting and Include Betty will face off in the $250,000 Ruffian Stakes (gr. II) May 14 at Belmont Park and each will be looking to claim their first race as a 4-year-old filly.
Top-level winners at 3—Cavorting won the Test (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course in August and Include Betty took the Mother Goose (gr. I) at Belmont in June—both placed in their first races of 2016 off a layoff.
Stonestreet Stables' Cavorting came in second to Paulassilverlining in the Distaff Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct Racetrack April 17, while Brereton Jones and Jim Thorton's Include Betty came in third in the Heavenly Prize Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct March 5.
While those two bring back class, Phipps Stable's Carrumba started 2016 on the winning track April 10 in the Top Flight Handicap (gr. III). The 4-year-old Bernardini filly earned her first graded score in the Top Flight at Aqueduct and has never finished worse than second in seven starts, including a head second to Forever Unbridled in the Comely (gr. III) Nov. 28.
BALAN: Carrumba Outduels Mei Ling in Top Flight
Last year's Chilukki (gr. III) winner Spelling Again, 2015 Delaware Oaks (gr. III) victress Calamity Kate, and stakes winner Welcome Aboard complete the field.
