Tepin, Nyquist Move Up in Longines Rankings

The Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings were updated May 8, reflecting the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and other key races held since early April. California Chrome   and Winx continue to occupy the top spots, both holding ratings of 126. The rest of the top 10 spots, however, feature a multitude of new horses.

Maurice, Nyquist, and Werther have now joined Postponed with rankings of 124.

Maurice is Japan's reigning Horse of the Year who won his 2016 debut by two lengths in Hong Kong in the May 1 Champions Mile (HK-I). The race was his first start since he won the Longines Hong Kong Mile (HK-I) in December.

Werther's move into the top 10 in the rankings also came due to success in Hong Kong, as he won the April 24 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (HK-I) by 4 1/2 lengths.

Nyquist moved up from a 118 rating after his May 7 victory in the Kentucky Derby, which he captured by 1 1/4 lengths to maintain his perfect race record.

Exaggerator, not on the previous list, was given a ranking of 121 based on his strong runner-up performance in the Kentucky Derby.

Tepin, like Nyquist, moved up because of a strong performance on Derby day. Her winning effort came in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IIT). She was previously ranked at 118 and is now ranked at 121, on even terms with Exaggerator and above Effinex, who was not on the previous list.

Effinex, Galileo Gold, Found, and Songbird share the ranking of 120. Effinex checks in at that spot after winning the Oaklawn Handicap (gr. II) April 16. Found and Galileo Gold were also new additions since the previous list, due to winning their 2016 debuts.

Found, who captured the 2015 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT), won the May 2 Camelot European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes (IRE-III), and Galileo Gold won the the QIPCO 2000 Guineas (ENG-I) with ease by 1 1/2 lengths over Massaat.
