The R.A.C.E. Fund, a TAA-accredited non-profit organization that provides retirement and rehabilitation assistance for racehorses, will launch its 2016 fund drive with an eBay auction. The auction will start May 27 at 8 p.m. EDT and end June 3. All proceeds will be used to help racehorses in need of retirement and rescue from slaughter.
Featured items include halters donated by WinStar Farm, Castleton Lyons, Lanes End, Taylor Made, Nuckols Farm, Timber Town Stable, and a VIP private tour of the Three Chimneys' stallion complex.
Halters that will be auctioned were worn by Monarchos , Funny Cide, Gio Ponti , Havre de Grace, Candy Ride , and Peppers Pride. Horseshoes that were worn by Afleet Alex and First Samurai also will be offered, as well as collectible first and second edition Secretariat bobbleheads.
Autographed race photos signed by Calvin Borel, Ron Turcotte, and Edgar Prado are included in the auction offerings. Borel signed a photo of his Kentucky Derby (gr. I) victory on Street Sense in 2007 and of Rachel Alexandra in her 2011 Woodward Stakes (gr. I) victory. Turcotte autographed a photo of Secretariat winning the 1973 Belmont Stakes (gr. I), and Gallery of Champions donated Prado's signed photo of him winning the 2006 Kentucky Derby on Barbaro.
"We have some very exciting auction items again this year.
