Speedway Stable’s multiple grade III winner Collected punched his ticket to the May 21 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) when he breezed seven furlongs in 1:24 4/5 over a track labeled “good” May 13 at Churchill Downs.

With Miguel Mena aboard, the son of City Zip   was timed in fractional splits of :23 4/5, :35 4/5, 1:00, and 1:12 3/5 for the first six furlongs. He had a mile gallop out time of 1:38 3/5.

On May 5, Collected breezed seven furlongs at Churchill in 1:25, also over a “good” track.

“His last two works at Churchill have been very impressive,” Baffert said. “He earned a spot in the Preakness today.”

In six starts, Collected has raced at five different tracks, with four wins and $433,700 in earnings under the training of Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. This year, Collected won the Sham Stakes (gr. III) before finishing fourth over a “good” Oaklawn Park track in the Southwest Stakes (gr. III) and rebounded to win both the Sunland Park Festival of Racing Stakes and Lexington Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland.

Bred in Kentucky by Runnymede Farm and Peter J. Callaghan, Collected was produced from the winning Johannesburg mare Helena Bay.

Speedway purchased Collected for $170,000 at last year’s Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. March sale, where he was consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds, agent.
