A colt from the first crop of Mission Impazible worked a quarter-mile in :21 3/5.

A Harlan's Holiday colt breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 and a colt from the first crop of Mission Impazible   worked a quarter-mile in :21 3/5 to top the May 18 under tack show workouts for the upcoming Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training.

The works equaled the fastest times for their respective distances during the first two days of workouts for the May 23-24 auction at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, with sessions beginning at 10 a.m.

The Harlan’s Holiday colt, Hip 371, became the second juvenile from Justin Casse’s Casse Sales to tie the under tack show fastest one-furlong time during the first two days. On Tuesday, the consignor had a Shackleford   colt work in that same time.

Bred in Kentucky by Fred W. Hertrich III and John D. Fielding, the Harlan’s Holiday colt was produced from an unraced Awesome Again   mare out of multiple grade I winner Strategic Maneuver, the dam of grade II winner Cat Fighter and Irish group III winner Ishiguru.

Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency to the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale, the colt was purchased by Fletcher Mauk's Small Batch Thoroughbreds for $100,000.

Casse said both speedy 2-year-olds had been in his care for about a week and he credited Jimbo and Torie Gladwell for breaking the Harlan’s Holiday colt.

“He’s a pretty horse who prepped well at the farm,” Casse said. “He’s a typical Harlan’s Holiday.”

The Shackleford colt, Hip 6, had been prepped by Kinsman Farm, on whose behalf Casse selected him for purchase for $95,000 from the Darby Dan consignment to the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale.

“I can’t take much credit other than making sure they (2-year-olds) are on their ‘A’ game while they are here,” Casse said.

Consigned by Blue River Bloodstock as Hip 371, the Mission Impazible colt that equaled the fastest time so far for a quarter-mile was bred in New York and produced from stakes-placed Voodoo’s Argument and is from the female family of multiple grade I winner Videogenic.

“The Mission Impazible colt worked as I expected; he’s a nice horse,” said Blue River’s Sergio Centeno, who has his first Midlantic consignment this year.

Bred by Sequel New York/WAM, the colt had been acquired by Katuska Arenas for $20,000 at last year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s August yearling sale.

Equaling the second-fastest quarter-mile work time so far of :21 4/5 were a Maclean's Music colt and a Wicked Rich filly. Consigned as Hip 361 by Coastal Equine, the colt was bred in West Virginia by Barak Farm. The Wicked Rich filly (Hip 312)was bred in New Jersey and is consigned by her breeder, Wes Carter.

The final under tack work session begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 19.
