Trainer Umarov Ejected From Churchill Downs

Description:

Owner and trainer Otabek Umarov has been ejected and excluded from Churchill Downs and suspended by Kentucky stewards.

The stewards posted their ruling May 3, after Umarov was ejected from Churchill.

Kentucky Horse Racing Commission chief steward Barbara Borden said Umarov was ejected by Churchill and the KHRC followed with an immediate suspension following that formal ejection. Borden said the stewards are not providing more detail at this time because of an ongoing investigation of Umarov in another matter.

Umarov, who has 11 wins from 93 starts since 2008, sent out this year's Essex Handicap winner La Macchina to victory at Oaklawn Park and is best known for winning last year's West Virginia Governor's Stakes with 74-1 shot Looks to Spare, a horse Umarov claimed for $5,000. Looks to Spare was listed as probable for the May 6 Alysheba Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill but ultimately was not entered.

Umarov has not yet had a starter at Churchill this season, where in his career he's had two horses place in four starts. This year Umarov has started horses at Oaklawn and Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
