Exaggerator returns to the track after winning the Preakness Stakes

Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Exaggerator was in fine fettle the morning of May 24 when he returned to the track at Pimlico Race Course for the first time since his impressive victory May 21.

Trainer Keith Desormeaux led the 3-year-old son of Curlin   to the track and observed as Exaggerator galloped lightly around the wet track.

Shortly after his colt, who finished second in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) returned to the barn, Desormeaux headed to the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training in nearby Timonium, Md.

“We’re really pleased with him,” assistant trainer Julie Clark said of Exaggerator, who was on his toes going to and from the track and while having his legs hosed afterward. “Even after two races back to back, he still doesn’t look like he’s lost any weight.”

Clark said the schedule is for Exaggerator to jog twice around the track Wednesday, be walked Thursday, gallop Friday and Saturday, and then ship to Belmont Park on Sunday, May 29, to prepare for the Belmont Stakes (gr. I).
