Brooklynsway wins the Dobledogdare (gr. III)

Coming in off an empty fifth in the May 5 La Troienne (gr. I) won by Curalina at Churchill Downs, Naveed Chowhan's Brooklynsway returns to grade III company and a synthetic surface as the 123-pound highweight in a field of 11 for the $100,000 Arlington Matron (gr. III) May 28 at Arlington International Racecourse.

The 4-year-old Giant Gizmo   filly upset heavy favorite I'm a Chatterbox two starts back on dirt, when she won the April 22 Hilliard Lyons Doubledogdare Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland to earn her first graded score for trainer Bernie Flint.

ANGST: Brooklynsway Stuns Doubledogdare Field

Flint picked out Brooklynsway at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale last fall, when Chowan went to $180,000 to land her. Ontario-bred Brooklynsway won three stakes at Woodbine and placed in four others—earning more than $500,000—racing for previous owner and trainer John Ross.

Coming in to challenge for the 1 1/8-mile test over the Arlington Polytrack are two graded winners trained by Victoria Oliver—Personal Diary and She's Not Here—who both seek a return to winning form, one stretching out and one turning back. She's Not Here finished sixth last time out in the May 6 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (gr. IIT) won by champion Tepin, and Personal Diary ran ninth in the May 29 Bewitch Stakes (gr. IIIT) going 1 1/2 miles, also on the lawn.

Personal Diary has not run on a synthetic surface since her 3-year-old season, when she was runner-up by a head in a Del Mar allowance. Now 5, the City Zip   mare also counts back to her 2014 Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) victory for her last stakes win. She won a Keeneland allowance April 13.

She's Not Here also leaves the turf for the first time in quite a while; her last synthetic trip was a maiden victory back in 2014 at Presque Isle Downs. The 5-year-old daughter of Street Cry (IRE) won the Yellow Ribbon Handicap (gr. IIT) on the Del Mar lawn last summer.

LEWYN: Flipcup Overhauls Favorite for Maple Leaf Win

Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott will sends New York-bred Flipcup in for a try. The 5-year-old Milwaukee Brew   runner won the 1 1/4-mile Maple Leaf Stakes (Can-III) over the Woodbine all-weather in October, and gets a late start to the season after closing out 2015 with a fifth in the ungraded Bay Ridge at Aqueduct Racetrack.
