After picking up a grade I placing at Churchill Downs in her previous race, the connections of Enchanting Lady hope she can nail down her first graded stakes win when she starts at the Louisville track again May 28 in the $100,000 Winning Colors Stakes (gr. III).
Kaleem Shah's Enchanting Lady is expected to face six other fillies and mares, including two-time Churchill stakes winner Spelling Again, in Saturday's six-furlong challenge.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Enchanting Lady enters off back to back grade I races in Kentucky. The 4-year-old Tale of the Cat filly finished fifth in the seven-furlong Madison Stakes April 9 at Keeneland before finishing third going the same distance May 7 at Churchill in the Humana Distaff Stakes.
At age 2 Enchanting Lady won the Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita Park before taking last year's Santa Paula Stakes there. She opened 2016 with an allowance-optional claiming race win going 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita before her two Kentucky starts.
Among the fillies and mares expected to face Enchanted Lady on Saturday is Seajay Racing's Spelling Again, who won the Open Mind and Chilukki (gr. II) stakes last year at Churchill. Those are the only two starts the 5-year-old Awesome Again mare has made at the Louisville track.
Trained by Brad Cox, Spelling Again enters the Winning Colors off a third-place finish to Cavorting in the one-turn mile Ruffian Stakes (gr. II) May 14 at Belmont Park. Before that race she finished seventh in the Madison.
