Heart to Heart Seeks Shoemaker Grade I

Terry Hamilton's Heart to Heart ran into a powerful contender last time out, when the filly Miss Temple City blew past him to win the Maker's 46 Mile (gr. IT) at Keeneland.

The 1 1/4-length loss snapped a three-race win streak in graded stakes for the 5-year-old Brian Lynch trainee, who took the River City Handicap (gr. IIIT), Ft. Lauderdale Stakes (gr. IIT), and Canadian Turf Stakes (gr. IIIT) in front-running fashion to up his career graded stakes total to six.

Heart to Heart could find his way back to the winner's circle for his first grade I victory in the $400,000 Shoemaker Mile (gr. IT) June 4 at Santa Anita Park, a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" race for the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT). The Ontario-bred son of English Channel   drew the rail in a field of six, and will have regular rider Julien Leparoux in the irons.

Grade I-placed Tourist, who exits a fourth in the May 7 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (gr. IT) at Churchill Downs, also ran in the Maker's 46 one start back, and finished third for WinStar Farm, Wachtel Stable, and Gary Barber. The 5-year-old Tiznow   runner still seeks that breakthrough graded score for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott; his best finish thus far was a runner-up effort in the Secretariat Stakes (gr. IT) of 2014. Jose Lezcano has the mount from the 3 hole.

Tarabilla Farms' Home Run Kitten won the May 6 American Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Santa Anita and looks to continue the climb for trainer David Hofmans. His best finish thus far in grade I company was a third in last year's Frank E Kilroe Mile (gr. IT). Joe Talamo rides from post 4.

Grade II winner Midnight Storm, who was runner-up in this race last year to Talco (FR) by half a length but was seventh in the Woodford Reserve last out, completes the field along with graded stakes-placed Cape Wolfe and Twentytwentyvision.
