Tyler Gaffalione, the 2015 Eclipse Award winner for outstanding apprentice jockey, took off his mounts June 3 at Gulfstream Park after a hospital stay June 2.
Gaffalione took off his mounts Thursday after riding the first three races because he experienced shortness of breath. He was later taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., where he spent the night to undergo tests.
"He's off his mounts today and he'll see about the weekend after we get test results," said agent Walter Blum Jr., who noted Gaffalione is expected to be released from the hospital Friday.
Gaffalione is currently third in Gulfstream's jockey standings with 34 wins and first in money earned. Gaffalione won 182 races from 1,137 starts during his apprentice period that ended Oct. 10. He also won six stakes during his apprentice season and won the Rampart (gr. III), his first graded stakes win, aboard Cali Star in December.
