Woodbine will kick off its series of clockwise turf races in the first race of the day on June 10.

The five-furlong starter allowance event for 3-year-olds and up that have started for a claiming price of $25,000 or less in 2015-16 attracted 11 entries, but only eight can run because of configuration of the E.P Taylor Turf Course.

Officials at the Ontario racetrack have said that by running races clockwise, more of the grass course can be utilized. The "EuroTurf" series, as it is called, also figures to generate interest from players.

"Friday will be a historic day at Woodbine as we our run first ever clockwise race," Woodbine Entertainment Group chief executive officer Jim Lawson said. "All sectors of the local horse racing industry have worked together to offer the core and new racing fan a chance to witness something truly special.

"We wanted to do something different here and to bring new energy to our sport, and we've done that with EuroTurf."

Track officials said up to 40 races could be run clockwise on the turf during the 2016 meet.
