New York-based freshman sire Mission Impazible got his first black-type stakes winner June 10 when Silver Mission captured the $200,000 Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park.
The 2-year-old colt out of Nashinda, by Silver Deputy, became Mission Impazible’s first winner earlier in the year, when he won a $100,000 maiden special weight event April 21 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
In the Tremont’s short field of four, Silver Mission broke cleanly and took a quick lead that he never relinquished. He rolled through early fractions of :22.99; :45.89, and :57.61 before widening the winning margin to six lengths. The final time for 5 1/2 furlongs was 1:03.78. The complete order of finish behind Silver Mission was Hey Mike, Pachi Cruze, and Saratoga Two Step.
Silver Mission races for her breeders Twin Creeks Racing Stables and Sequel Thoroughbreds. He is trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden by John Velazquez.
"It was pretty easy,” Velazquez said. “He broke well coming out of there. He got to the lead and he kept going. He handled it very well."
"He's pretty quick for a little guy. He's also pretty talented for as little as he is,” the rider said.
Silver Mission is also the first stakes winner for his dam Nashinda, a grade III winner who has produced four winners from four starters. The Tremont winner is the first foal bred out of the mare by Twin Creeks and Sequel. She was previously owned by George Strawbridge Jr.
Mission Impazible stands at Sequel Stallions New York for $7,500.
