The under tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age sale came to an end June 10, with a Majesticperfection filly breezing a quarter-mile in :20 4/5, tying the fastest time at the distance over the course of the six days of workouts.
An Into Mischief colt, Hip 93 from Thoroughbred Champions Training Center, agent, had breezed :20 4/5 for the quarter during the first session Sunday. The six-day fastest furlong time of :09 4/5 was turned in by a Gemologist colt, Hip 215 from Top Line Sales, agent, on the under tack show’s second day.
The Majesticperfection filly, consigned as Hip 1026 by Susan Montanye’s SBM Training and Sales, as agent, is a half sister to stakes winners Overvalued and I Spy Wolfie. She was bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones, who owns Airdrie Stud, where Majesticperfection stands for a $20,000 fee. She was bought my SBM for $162,000 from Jones’ consignment to last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale.
Montanye said the filly was scratched from the OBS April sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 but failing to attract as much attention from potential buyers as her consignor wanted.
“Her April work was fast but I just didn’t feel there was enough action for the kind of money I thought she should bring,” the consignor said. “I paid a lot for her, especially for me, because I am a smaller consignor and don’t have the margins of the bigger consignors. She was outstanding as a yearling, which is why she brought as much as she did. She galloped out great today, and she vetted sound after the work. We’re obviously excited that we’ve jumped through all the (pre-sale) hoops.”
Four 2-year-olds shared the final session fastest time of :10 for the eighth-mile distance. They were Hip 1082, an In Summation filly from GOP Racing Stable Corp., agent; Hip 1108, a Gone Astray colt consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, agent; Hip 1127, a Discreetly Mine colt offered by Bobby Dodd, agent; and Hip 1143, an Archarcharch filly consigned by Randy Bradshaw, agent.
OBS sales director Tod Wojciechowski said sales company officials were pleased that the under tack show went smoothly despite a three-inch deluge of rainfall late Monday when Tropical Storm Colin moved through the area. Although the second session Tuesday was delayed by about 45 minutes, there were no problems once the workouts began.
The sale in Ocala, Fla., runs June 14-17, with sessions beginning daily at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
