Nineteen Elected as Breeders' Cup Members

Breeders' Cup concluded election of members

Ten individuals were re-elected, and nine others elected, to seats on the board of Breeders' Cup members in voting that concluded June 13, the organization announced June 15.

The members—there are 39 on the board—are elected by Breeders' Cup foal and stallion nominators. Breeders' Cup officials said the results of the online voting are expected to be ratified at the annual meeting scheduled for July 13.

The 10 re-elected members are Barbara Banke, Doug Cauthen, Andreas Jacobs, W. Bruce Lunsford, Clem Murphy, Maria Niarchos-Gouaze, Bill Oppenheim, J. David Richardson, W. Elliott Walden, and Barry Weisbord. They received the most votes along with Boyd Browning, Carlos Heller, Sol Kumin, David O'Farrell, Mike Rogers, Bernie Sams, Alex Solis II, Oliver Tait, and Aron Wellman.

There were 30 candidates for the 19 seats. Complete elections results are available here.

"This class of new and returning members represents some of the finest individuals in the Thoroughbred industry," Breeders' Cup chairman Bill Farish said in a release. "We look forward to utilizing their valuable knowledge and expertise in the growth and enhancement of the Breeders' Cup program."

The Breeders' Cup board of directors is comprised of 13 people; three seats are open this year. That election will begin July 7 and end July 13 at the annual meeting.
