Treve Seeks Redemption in Prince of Wales's

Reigning European Horse of the Year Treve will try to bounce back from her first career defeat against seven opponents in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (Eng-I) June 18, the second day of the Royal Ascot meeting. 

 

An enthralling five-length winner of the 2013 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I), Al Shaqab Racing's daughter of Motivator lost her unbeaten record when coming a neck second to Cirrus des Aigles on her seasonal reappearance in the Prix Ganay (Fr-I) at Longchamp on April 27.

 

"She came out of her last race very well," said Al Shaqab's racing adviser Harry Herbert. "(Trainer) Criquette (Head-Maarek) called me the next day and said Treve hadn't left an oat, which was encouraging after a tough race on sticky ground against a great racehorse.

 

"It has all been really encouraging news since, the way she's been training."

 

The field includes Coolmore and partners' 2013 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner Magician, who also is looking to rebound after a second to Noble Mission in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Ire-I) May 25 at the Curragh.

 

James Wigan's United States champion turf female Dank, based in Great Britain with Sir Michael Stoute, comes in off a third in the Dubai Duty Free (UAE-I) in late March at Meydan in her 2014 bow. The effort followed her victories in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) in November and Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) in August to clinch the division's the Eclipse Award.

 

Andrew Lloyd-Webber's The Fugue was 11th in the Dubai Duty Free after closing 2013 with seconds to Magician in the Breeders' Cup Turf and Dominant in the Longines Hong Kong Vase (HK-I). Earlier that season she was a convincing four-length winner of the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-I) and defeated males in the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I).

 

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's multiple group winner Mukhadram, trained by William Haggas will try to go one better than his second to African Story in the Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) March 29. Sheikh Hamdan also is represented by Elkaayed, trained by Roger Varian, who is looking for a stakes breakthrough.

 

The field is rounded out by Jim Bolger's group I winner Parish Hall, second to Magician in the Mooresbridge Stakes (Ire-III) May 5 at the Curragh, and Ailan Hamad Kadfoor Al Mehairi's South African group winner Zambucca.
