A colt by the Coolmore Australia stallion Fastnet Rock out of a full sister to multiple group I winner Lush Lashes has generated a lot of interest leading up to the June 17 final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age.
“We’re here to get them all sold, but he is one of the buzz horses in the sale,” said consignor Tom McCrocklin. “He’s very talented and classy. He is a grand horse with a stallion’s pedigree.”
The colt, Hip 1109, was produced from the unraced Galileo mare Alone and was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corp. Alone’s full sister Lush Lashes won three group I races in England and Ireland and is from the extended family of group I winners Saumarez and Buzzword, as well as many group II and group III winners.
During the under tack workouts, the colt, foaled Jan. 14, 2014, breezed a quarter-mile in :21, co-second fastest during the six days of works. McCrocklin said he had various reports from clockers that the colt galloped out three furlongs in :32 3/5 to :33 following the timed work.
McCrocklin bought the colt privately after he failed to meet his reserve on a final bid of $140,000 when consigned by Lane’s End to the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Also cataloged Friday is a Majesticperfection filly who had the under tack show fastest quarter-mile work of :20 4/5 for Susan Montayne’s SBM Training and Sales. Produced from the winning Cox’s Ridge mare Undervalued, the filly is a half sister to stakes winner Overvalued and was bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones. SBM bought the filly for $162,000 from Jones’ consignment at the Keeneland September sale.
“I have a filly that’s fast and vets 100% clean,” Montayne said. “I would hope she’s in the top 10% of horses in the sale.”
Another well-bred offering is Hip 936, a half brother to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner and sire Super Saver and grade III winner and sire Brethren consigned as Hip 936 by Eddie Woods. The son of Distorted Humor bred in Kentucky by Hill 'n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Glen Hill Farm was bought back at Keeneland for $275,000.
“He’s typical of the family and is coming around but isn’t there yet,” Woods said. “Potentially a very nice horse down the road.”
